Manganyi et al. reviewed the biological and pharmaceutical properties of Sceletium tortuosum, highlighting evidence for anxiolytic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective effects linked to mesembrine-type alkaloids. The review further discussed the plant’s traditional use for stress relief, emotional wellbeing, fatigue reduction, and cognitive support.
Olatunji et al. subsequently reviewed the phytochemistry, pharmacokinetics, biological, and clinical activities of Sceletium tortuosum, reporting that mesembrine alkaloids demonstrated serotonergic and monoaminergic activity together with phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibition.

from wild sceletium plants which we analysed for alkaloids.
The most balanced profiles were selected and replicated
into a nursery and since then we have continued of selecting
commercially successful chemotypes that are successfully
in a commercial environment.
